| 1/1/2010 | LRR began the year 2010 after taking in 173 dogs and 3 cats during the 9 months of 2009 (since it formed as a Rescue) - from April 1 through December 31. On 1/1/10, 34 were Available, 39 were Adopted, and 1 was Returned to its original owner, 101 had gone to Rescues, and 1 was Euthanized because of aggression towards other dogs. As the remaining 34 are Adopted or go to Rescues, they will be noted in this log. Logan's Run helped a lot of stray animals in 2009. |
| 1/1/2010 | Lucky Buster aka Zeus(LRR #152-2009), the young black Labrador retriever, was adopted the first day of 2010 for his forever home by Fred and Betty Liedke in Murphy, NC. |

| 1/02/2010 | LRR accepted its first dog of 2010, Greta (LRR #1-2010), a pretty young "lemon" beagle, a stray from the Hanging Dog area of Cherokee County |
Gretta |
| 1/03/2010 | LRR accepted three male siblings of Greta: Tanner (LRR #2-2010), Jasper (LRR #3-2010), and Jake (LRR #4-2010), good-looking young "black saddle" beagles, strays from the Hanging Dog area of Cherokee County. Note the hole in the side of Jasper. He was near death from the wound and had surgery to remove his spleen and parts of smashed ribs. These dogs were later sent to NSALA on Long Island and adopted out. Then in July of 2010, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department filed felony larceny charges against Susan White, a teacher of handicaped children, who apparently picked up these stray dogs off the side of the road and brought them to LRR. The arrest warrant was filed at the request of an individual who claims to be the owner at the time the dogs were turned in to LRR. Susan saved Jasper's life and is now facing felony charges, proving the old saying "No good deed goes unpunished." LRR is now asking the Sheriff office to file charges against the former owner for animal cruelty (neglect in treating Jasper's wound).

Several Coordinator positions have changed since that first quarterly meeting. Linda Bamfield now occupies two positions as both Medical Care Coordinator and Community Awareness Coordinator, Linda Gilmer is the Fund Raising and Marketing Coordinator, and Ron Stoessell is the Grant and Public Records Coordinator, a new board position that was created in the first quarter of 2010. The other Coordinator positions remain the same as in 2009. The first year of LRR has been an amazing success: accepting 256 animals, adopting out 65 locally, sending 163 to other no-kill rescues for adoption, with 26 dogs available. Only one dog was euthanized (for dog aggression) and one puppy was accidently smothered by its mother(?) in a litter. In addition, our 3 community programs (PEPOP, LOCO, and LOCOS) for the public have fixed 77 companion animals. |

| 7/13/2010 | Logan's Run Rescue held its Quarterly Meeting in July at Susan Cranston's House in Andrews. Seven new "General" Members and a change in the By-Laws were approved by 2/3 of the 21 "Founding" Members. The new Members are Melody and Stuart Tabman, Tom Dykstra, Barbara and Ron Riopel, and Debbie and Chris Graham, bringing our current Members total to 29. The change in the By-Laws was to allow the board to fill future vacant board positions from the general membership. And by majority Board vote, Joan Anderson and Terry Drinkut were appointed to fill the vacant positions of President and Vice President. LRR is a great success. We have rescued 194 dogs so far in 2010 and fixed 114 dogs and 104 cats in the LRR Community Programs: LOCO, LOCOS, and SNAP. We are seeking the cooperation of additional area vets to increase the number of animals fixed through our low-cost community outreach programs. She was starving, her utters were full, and we do not know what happened to her puppies - but they probably died. This is a clear case of animal cruelty and it has been reported to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department. This author (Ron Stoessell) doesn't believe they will enforce the animal cruelty laws and press charges, but he hopes he is proven wrong.
